A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is an industrial computer control system that continuously monitors the state of input devices and makes decisions based upon a custom program to control the state of output devices.
It is used primarily in automation of industrial electromechanical processes, such as control of machinery on factory assembly lines, amusement rides, or light fixtures. PLCs are designed for multiple arrangements of digital and analog inputs and outputs, extended temperature ranges, immunity to electrical noise, and resistance to vibration and impact. The hardware components of a PLC system are CPU, memory, input/output, power supply unit, and programming device.
SCADA is a system of hardware and software that combines industrial automation and control. Short for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition, SCADA are the backbone of modern industry. It allows industries to monitor, gather, and process data; interact with and control machines and devices such as valves, pumps, motors, and more, which are connected through HMI (human-machine interface) software, and record events into a log file.
